I had been wanting to adventure in Killarney all summer but every time I had a free weekend, the park was booked up.  When I checked a few weeks ago, I finally saw a few openings.  They were all with portages but after carrying my lil kayak over 3km's in Algonquin each way a few weeks ago I figured a kilometer was totally doable and something I wouldn't have an issue with. Since booking my site on [...]

Since moving to Muskoka and making the drive to Bracebridge for groceries and supplies, etc, I have noticed a sign along highway 118 that says Huckleberry Rock Trail, but until today, I had not investigated it.  I was really glad I did because it's a pretty nice place! It was the day of the Tragically Hip concert, their farewell show in Kingston. I had originally had plans to go camping with some friends but things [...]

I got off work right at 5 with the intention of heading to Hardy Lake for a hike.  I packed my backpack the night before and when I finished for the day at the office, I walked over to my bedroom (lol), grabbed my backpack and off I went! Hardy Lake Provincial Park is about 20 minutes from my new home. I actually came to visit it the day of my job interview, but knowing [...]

Decew Falls is named after John DeCou, who purchased the land in about 1788, buying 100 acres with an axe and an indian blanket. In 1812 he purchased the land along the top of the escarpment from his newly built stone house to Decew Falls.  During the war of 1812, DeCou served in the Lincoln Militia and his home served as headquarters by the British where Laura Secord brought news to in June of 1813, of a potential [...]

It was a gorgeous day out and even though I'd hiked 10 hours the day before,  I couldn't resist getting outside to do a few more trails today! I headed to Gibson Street in Grimsby to park my car and start my amazing adventure! This was my last weekend before my knee surgery to hike and I was taking total advantage and spending as much time doing what I loved while I was able to! [...]

I have never officially hiked in Parry Sound until this Thanksgiving.  My good friend Katies family visits a cottage in McKellar, Ontario, every thanksgiving and last year invited me along.  Since I behaved myself so well, they invited me back again this year and I was super excited to be there! This year I had been adventuring all summer and was pretty much away every weekend, or already had plans to do something while at [...]

When I was a wee thing in my single digits, my family used to rent a cottage on Green Lake, Up North, Ontario.  LOL. My parents would spend alot of time fishing while we were there and my mom didn't like the boat so much. My dad and brother would fish in the boat and drop my mom and I off on the shore nearby.  My mom would fish and I would play in the [...]

On Monday August 24th, my mom and I stopped by to check out one of our favourite places in Algonquin Park, well, just outside of Algonquin Park, called Ragged Falls! Ragged Falls Provincial Park is it's own separate provincial park, however, if you have a day pass for any provincial park, it can be used for all of them.  Therefore, we didn't have to pay the parking fee to spend some time there, which is [...]

On Sunday August 23rd, 2015, my mom and I took a spin around Peck Lake Trail in Algonquin Park. We have done it many times and it is one of our favourite trails in the park.  It is very scenic and not too difficult for mom, who's about to turn 70 this year!  Last year when we were there we saw a humming bird, her first one ever and it was really exciting to see! The Marsh Trail is one of the many trails you can visit when at Rondeau Provincial Park.  I camped at Rondeau from July 24th to July 26th, and the day of our departure, we headed to the Marsh Trail for a hike to stretch our legs before our 4 hour drive back home. Here is the description of the trail from the @ontarioparks website : http://www.ontarioparks.com/park/rondeau (I hope it's okay that I quote this? ) "Marsh Trail – 7.2 [...]
