Every time I look at a calendar, I feel a sense of panic.  It's AUGUST! It's August and one of my two most favorite months of the year to camp, September being the most favorite.  I need to go,  go go and I can't stop.  I have to get out. That is what I hear, constantly in my head.  Not only is it August, but I missed 5 months of camping due to 2 concussions [...]

Last year, I had the privilege of being invited to shadow the kayaking courses at the Women on Water Paddling Festival.  It was great fun and I learned so much. When I was asked to come back again this year, to teach basic kayaking, I agreed wholeheartedly and couldn't wait for the event to arrive. I left off in Part 1 with the sun setting on Saturday.  This post begins on Sunday with a whole [...]

I had not been fishing with my dad since I was about 5 or so when I lost my plastic fishing rod to Greenbough Lake.  It was a traumatic experience for me and I was heartbroken. I loved that little plastic fishing rod and the cute colored fish that came with it.  With no other options, I went back into the bow of the boat with my coloring book and wrote off fishing for many [...]

At this time of year, I have been heading out on day trips on the weekends so that I can spend more time at home at the computer.  Yes, it sucks a bit, and YES I am dying to go camping... but sometimes you have to take what you can get.  With an upcoming presentation at the KW Canoe Symposium that I am thrilled about, gear reviews due for the brand I ambassador for, Ultimate [...]

Last month when I took my level 1 Sea Kayaking Course, I had no intention of taking my level 2.  If you read my Level 1 post, you would've seen that I had an amazing time at that course!  The instructors were full of knowledge and tonnes of fun and I learned so much!  I gained confidence in my skills, refreshed some of them and learned quite a few more. And, I met some extraordinary [...]

I woke up Sunday with no plans at all. Such an odd thing for me!   I have been striving to find some small rivers and creeks to paddle in since moving to Port Carling.  It's been a hard search as most of the lakes in my area are very big and full of motor boats and cottages.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I like to paddle on calm small waters, still [...]

Thanksgiving weekend I was in Mckellar, Ontario at Glenwood Resort with my adopted Up North family, the Burnetts.  I brought my kayak up and paddled all 3 mornings I was there, along with a few evenings, and took quite a few fall photos.  I thought it would be fun to share them here with you in a photo blog. Hope you like it! Last year when I was here, I took a picture of [...]

I have never officially hiked in Parry Sound until this Thanksgiving.  My good friend Katies family visits a cottage in McKellar, Ontario, every thanksgiving and last year invited me along.  Since I behaved myself so well, they invited me back again this year and I was super excited to be there! This year I had been adventuring all summer and was pretty much away every weekend, or already had plans to do something while at [...]
