Every time I look at a calendar, I feel a sense of panic.  It's AUGUST! It's August and one of my two most favorite months of the year to camp, September being the most favorite.  I need to go,  go go and I can't stop.  I have to get out. That is what I hear, constantly in my head.  Not only is it August, but I missed 5 months of camping due to 2 concussions [...]

Packing for my French River Kayaking Trip

Last year I went on a few trips that were a couple days longer than weekend trips.  As I camp so often, I try and make 3 and 4 day weekends with my vacation time, instead of taking an entire week or two off at once. That way I can enjoy being outdoors much more, in my opinion.  One of these trips was a 4 day, 3 night trip [...]

Since starting my blog and youtube channel, I have gotten a lot of requests from people to see what I pack for my trips, so today I am posting what I packed for my 5 day Algonquin trip last summer.  This canoe trip, was not only the longest trip I'd done solo, but also the first time I was portaging a canoe daily to get to each site.  I had only portaged a canoe myself [...]

When I was little, my family rented a cottage up north, and for one whole week every summer, I was in total heaven. It was awesome and I have some very fond memories of my time there, even though sadly, we never canoed or paddled.   We did do a lot of really fun things… like looking for tadpoles and frogs, trying to catch minnows in our sand pails, roasting marshmallows beside a big huge [...]

It was a great weekend, it was cold, it was wet, it was windy and I vowed momentarily not to camp again until next summer, but it was a total hoot! I had been in correspondence with Mike Burns who had provided me with a huge amount of advice and information regarding my recent solo trip to Killarney.  I had met Mike at the 150 through another friend Derek, from Paddling Adventures Radio, a podcast [...]

Here is where I left off in Part 1, on a non site on Great Mountain Lake in 39 km wind gusts....... As I sat listening to the wind howling, I looked up and once again noticed the brightly lit up globe in the sky in front of me.  I didn't make the effort to go to the waterfront to take a photo but just snapped one from where I was sitting inside my tent. [...]

I had just arrived, set up my small footprint tarp and was sitting under it enjoying some lunch...... I had been waiting for this trip since last year and was so glad I was finally here.  In the last post, Killarney Days 1 and 2, Rainy Plains to The Magical Mountains, I left off at the end of day 2.  We are staying on an amazing campsite on David Lake where we have a view of Silver Peak and on Day 3, the plan is to hike to the top of it.  I'd [...]
