I left off in Part 1 on my beautiful site on Bentshoe Lake in the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails.  It was Saturday May 19th, and my friend Sean from Padding Adventures Radio was on his way to visit and spend the day in the rain with me, doing some kayaking, fishing and catching up. I collected some firewood after breakfast and waited for my friend Sean from Paddling Adventures Radio to arrive.  Sean had just [...]

The May long weekend was on the way and I had no plans. I decided it was finally time to get out and do a trip. My concussion was still lingering slightly but I had improved greatly and figured a quiet, easy, relaxing trip shouldn’t be too difficult.  I booked a site in the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails on Bentshoe Lake. I had actually done my first kayak camp of last year there and knew [...]

Packing for my French River Kayaking Trip

Last year I went on a few trips that were a couple days longer than weekend trips.  As I camp so often, I try and make 3 and 4 day weekends with my vacation time, instead of taking an entire week or two off at once. That way I can enjoy being outdoors much more, in my opinion.  One of these trips was a 4 day, 3 night trip [...]

Since starting my blog and youtube channel, I have gotten a lot of requests from people to see what I pack for my trips, so today I am posting what I packed for my 5 day Algonquin trip last summer.  This canoe trip, was not only the longest trip I'd done solo, but also the first time I was portaging a canoe daily to get to each site.  I had only portaged a canoe myself [...]

How to Make A Hot Tent Camper Christina Style – Part 1

In November 2015, I built a DIY Tipi hot tent.   It is awesome and I love it dearly, but unfortunately, the tipi is not made for the backcountry. I took it on a few small trips last year and very quickly realized it weighs a tonne.  I hadn't realized how much until I had made a statistics sheet about it for winter in the wild and was amazed to see that it weighed about 65 [...]

Ever since my first trip with Kevin Callan, The Happy Camper, in June of this year, there has been a challenge set forth for Kevin the (mostly) canoeist to go on a kayaking trip with me.  Our second trip over the Canada 150 long weekend, brought us canoeing once again, but I was promised a kayaking trip at some point and I was going to make sure it happened, no matter how short or the location. [...]

I had plans to head over and visit my kayaking coach for some training in preparation of my Level  1 Sea Kayak Instructor Course, but as sometimes plans do, they were moved to another day during the week.  This put me at 8am on a Saturday morning, kayak on car all ready to go, and no plans for the weekend. Guess I could start my kayak camping season after all?  You didn't have to twist [...]
