As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to visit the French River.  I had no idea where to go, where to access, what to see, etc and so the trip kept getting delayed.  Finding myself suddenly available on the August long weekend and dying to do a 4 day solo, I decided the French River was where I would go. My awesome friend Kevin Callan had been there and had written about the [...]

One night,  I was sitting out front, enjoying some fresh air. I looked over and saw something in the front garden that I thought was a funny looking pine cone? I walked over to take a closer look and realized it was a mushroom.  I had just seen one on facebook exactly like it, so I took a photo and posted it, super excited about my find. I had never seen such a cool mushroom [...]

Brydon’s Bay Trail – Mom visits Port Carling!

Since I moved to Port Carling in May, my mom has not been to visit.  She doesn't have a vehicle and getting a bus or train here isn't really the best option.  As it takes me about 3 hours to get to her and 3 hours to get back, going to pick her up, and drop her off has not been an option either, so it's been tough. We haven't been able to do much [...]

Since moving to Muskoka and making the drive to Bracebridge for groceries and supplies, etc, I have noticed a sign along highway 118 that says Huckleberry Rock Trail, but until today, I had not investigated it.  I was really glad I did because it's a pretty nice place! It was the day of the Tragically Hip concert, their farewell show in Kingston. I had originally had plans to go camping with some friends but things [...]

When I decided to move to Port Carling and sell my home, I also decided to reward myself at some point,  for how far I've come and for achieving some of the goals I have set for myself over the last year.  It started out as a go pro, or something similar, then progressed to a solo canoe.  I even went and tested one out! But after completing my level 2 sea kayaking course, I [...]

I Say Goodbye, I Say Hello – The road to Port Carling – chapter 1

My dad provided me with the perfect word to describe the last few weeks, bittersweet.    It seems no matter how good something is, there is almost always something bad that goes along with it. It also depends on if you choose to see it, or just focus on the positive.  When things in your life have been really good and people have been great to you, you can't help but get sad when you [...]
