My first solo backcountry trip was 2 years ago at the Massasauga Provincial Park.  It was by kayak and since then I've done many solo kayaking trips and a few solo winter camping trips both by tipi and by tent.  I had never gone on a solo canoe trip, however, until this past weekend. At the 150 for 150 event on Canoe Lake the weekend before Canada Day, Jon from Backcountry Custom Canoes answered my [...]

When I camped with The Happy Camper last month, I had no idea we would be heading out on another trip so soon.  We had discussed the big 150th birthday this year and I had mentioned I wanted to do something awesome, but hadn't made plans yet. Kevin had originally had something booked, but it was cancelled, so,  it left us both open for the long weekend and  it being such a big deal, we [...]

It was an epic weekend. One I will never forget and one I will cherish.  It started off with a vision of one person and grew with the passion of others.  It displayed our love of  the canoe and the honor we all feel to be Canadians, living in this great country.  This weeks post will be two videos of the event.  Day one, featuring the opening ceremonies, some interviews with a few of the [...]

Before taking my Level 1 Sea Kayak Instructor Course with Ontario Sea Kayak Centre, my coach Dympna had asked me to attend the Women on Water Paddling Festival.  I had no idea what this festival was all about and had not heard of it until she'd mentioned it. I did a bit of research and it looked like a really cool weekend that had been created by Wild Women Expeditions and Ontario Sea Kayak Center, [...]

I actually had decided going into my Level 1 Sea Kayak Instructor Course, that I wasn't going to blog about it.  I had things to learn and too much to do and needed to be serious and focused on learning as much as possible. Studying while kayak camping weeks before the course No time for pictures, (HAHAHA, yeah, well, I always get a few pics!!) But I think you get the drift of [...]

Have you every wondered what it'd be like to camp with the famous Happy Camper, Kevin Callan?  I did too, so I decided to find out! I had chatted with Kevin Callan a few times online at the start of 2017, as he had picked me to do a blurb on my tipi for his winter camping book. When we met at the Outdoor Adventure Show this spring in person, we shared a few stories [...]

One night,  I was sitting out front, enjoying some fresh air. I looked over and saw something in the front garden that I thought was a funny looking pine cone? I walked over to take a closer look and realized it was a mushroom.  I had just seen one on facebook exactly like it, so I took a photo and posted it, super excited about my find. I had never seen such a cool mushroom [...]

I had been wanting to visit Wye Marsh for over a year now. On Sunday, a beautiful spring day, that visit finally happened. My friends Sam and Shylo had also wanted to go. So we picked a day and headed down to check out what Wye Marsh is all about. We paid the admission fee of $11.00 plus person, plus tax. I found it a bit steep but once I found out what the admission [...]
