When I was little, my family rented a cottage up north, and for one whole week every summer, I was in total heaven. It was awesome and I have some very fond memories of my time there, even though sadly, we never canoed or paddled.   We did do a lot of really fun things… like looking for tadpoles and frogs, trying to catch minnows in our sand pails, roasting marshmallows beside a big huge [...]

2017 was an amazing year, full of incredible adventures, big challenges and lots of new and wonderful people!  Just last week I was rewarded with 100000 views on my blog here at CamperChristina.com. I am truly grateful for all the love and support I have received over the past two and a half years since my first post July 7, 2015. Thank you so very much! While saying goodbye to 2017 and welcoming the new year, it was only proper that I mark the occasion by camping. I spent the last day of 2017 and the first day of 2018 in a chilly winter wonderland in Algonquin Park, with some of the awesome people I've met through a shared passion, a love and respect of the outdoors, that brings us all together. I arrived at Mew Lake early Saturday morning. It [...]

I have always wanted to do a winter backcountry trip in Killarney, but due to the tipi being so heavy and not having a clue where to go, I hadn't made it there as of yet. Over the summer, I had stopped in to visit the lovely staff at the office at George Lake.  I was doing a 5 day, 4 night solo trip and I had a few questions.  I got all the answers [...]

In November 2015, I built a DIY Tipi hot tent.   It is awesome and I love it dearly, but unfortunately, the tipi is not made for the backcountry. I took it on a few small trips last year and very quickly realized it weighs a tonne.  I hadn’t realized how much until I had made a statistics sheet about it for winter in the wild and was amazed to see that it weighed about 65 lbs and with [...]

I had been go go go and I needed a bit of a break. I,  of course, didn't want to stay home though, so I planned a quick trip to one of my favorite areas, the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails.  I found a site on a lake called East Paint Lake that was all by itself.  To get there I just needed to do a short paddle and an 823m portage. Easy peasy!  Booked it [...]

It's been a busy busy summer, a busy year actually and I have had the most amazing trips!  After completing my big three  solo adventures, French River, Algonquin and Killarney, I am ready for a nice relaxing camping trip with lots of exploring and down time and not a huge amount of paddling or portaging. As I am a bit injured as well at the moment, with a pulled rib of some sort, I wanted [...]

Here is where I left off in Part 1, on a non site on Great Mountain Lake in 39 km wind gusts....... As I sat listening to the wind howling, I looked up and once again noticed the brightly lit up globe in the sky in front of me.  I didn't make the effort to go to the waterfront to take a photo but just snapped one from where I was sitting inside my tent. [...]

With another long weekend fast approaching, it was time to devise a new plan. A 5 day solo canoe trip was in order and I wanted it to be as awesome as my Algonquin trip had been.  It would be hard to surpass but I believed I had the groundwork for another epic journey! After many nights of planning and consulting a few people who knew the area, making revisions and calculating kilometers and portage [...]
