The other day, while visiting with my friend Sam for dinner, she told me about some trails nearby.  The trails are called the Humphrey Nature Trails and they were literally around the corner from where we had dinner at Whatta Pizza.  I was very glad she showed me where the actual trail head was, because it was hidden behind the fire station.  I decided I would come back and explore the trails on the following [...]

I woke up to a beautiful day, 15 degrees in mid November!  I had had knee surgery just over 3 weeks ago and I was feeling awesome! Last weekend I had ridden the Trans Canada Trail in Fort Erie and today, I was up for a new adventure! I shuffled over to my computer and clicked on the Trans Canada Trail website to find a section of the trail I could ride my bike on, that I hadn't done [...]

Once upon a time I applied to be the woods explorer. It seems like a lifetime ago, but it was really only about 6 months ago. My application video was different than pretty much every one that I'd seen and I was hopeful this would make me stand out and have a better chance of being picked. Instead of listing all the reasons why they should pick me, I tried to show them, that I [...]

My new Pot Set – Testing it out at Bon Echo PP

I have been backcountry camping and camping in general for over 15 years.  I love being out in nature and preparing cool things to eat. I rarely buy the dehydrated bags of meals as I find them loaded with salt and I tend to get migraines from them, so I do my best to get creative when cooking on my camping trips. I bought my first camping pot set about 18 years ago and have [...]

On Saturday, September 5th, I had plans to visit friends in Woodstock for the evening.  Another great opportunity to explore a new section of the Trans Canada Trail!  I went on the website and checked the TCT Map.  I discovered a really nice section in Brantford, pretty much en route to my final destination, so I packed up my bike, lots of water, as it was going to be very hot today, and headed [...]

On Monday August 24th, 2015, my mom and I headed out to Whiskey Rapids Trail in Algonquin Park, one of our favourite trails there! Whiskey Rapids is a great trail. I love it for many reasons.  The trail starts off going down a bit of a steep hill.  You can almost hear the water right from the start but can not see it.  When it does come into view, you are repeatedly rewarded with gorgeous [...]

On Saturday August 22, 2015, my mom and I, en route to the cottage, stopped at the #TCTrail in Huntsville, Ontario, to check it out! It was 8am when we got there and the area was heavy with fog, but it was extremely beautiful! We turned into the parking lot at Avery Beach Park at  the end of Yonge Street, grabbed our backpacks and headed out to do some exploring, donned in our #WoodsExplorer shirts to promote the [...]

On Sunday August 9th, I left the TCT in Guelph and headed to do a section of the trail in Cambridge, in a somewhat round about way home. I was a bit tired from the night before, celebrating my friends wedding in Guelph, but had figured since I was already there, why not do some of the Trans Canada Trails out this way?  I mapped out a route to do the trail in Guelph, then [...]

On the morning of Sunday August 9th, I woke up groggily after celebrating my friends wedding.  I was in Guelph and therefore had brought my bike, deciding to do a portion of the Trans Canada Trail here today.  I got dressed, packed my backpack and headed out on my way, deciding to start the trail in behind Woolwich Street at MacDonell Street,  just a section down from the church where I watched my friends marry [...]
