I woke up to a beautiful day, 15 degrees in mid November! I had had knee surgery just over 3 weeks ago and I was feeling awesome! Last weekend I had ridden the Trans Canada Trail in Fort Erie and today, I was up for a new adventure!
I shuffled over to my computer and clicked on the Trans Canada Trail website to find a section of the trail I could ride my bike on, that I hadn’t done as yet. I found an area in Ridgeway that I’d wanted to explore. I screenshot the map to my iPhone, put my backpack and bike in my car and began my next adventure!
Thirty minutes later, I was on my bike with the warm breeze blowing through my hair and the birds chirping in the trees. It was a great day!
At first I thought the trail looked a bit blah and barren, but after I rode for a few minutes I realized it wasn’t at all. There were many shades of fall that still remained, even in mid November. The weather had been amazing and I even got a bit of a sunburn on my nose! 🙂
I came up to a bridge with a beautiful little creek flowing under it. I stopped to take a few live photos and test out my new iPhone 6s. It basically shoots a picture but also records 1.5 seconds before and after the shot is taken, making a 3 second video clip. It’s pretty cool, but most platforms don’t have the technology to support them yet. So, until then, I have to upload them as video clips. I have tried making them into Gifs which is what I do for twitter and instagram, but in WordPress they only play if you open them in another screen and unless you do, you don’t know they’re gifs, so for now, I’m going to post them as videos.
I had ridden quite a bit so I stopped for a little rest. There were these lovely benches all along the trail where you could stop and have a snack and a rest.
After the next leg of the trail, I came out onto Ridge Road. It was around 1030 in the morning so it wasn’t too busy out. It looked like a quant little town.
After crossing the street, the trail continues beside the beer store, if you need to stop for a king can (LOL) and then you are riding behind a long row of houses with some attractive backyards.
Shortly after that, however, you are back in what looks like the country and there are fields on either side of the trail and you feel like you’ve disconnected with the world again. Yay!
I arrived at Cherry Hill Boulevard and stopped for another snack . It was so peaceful and quiet here and not as busy as other parts of the trail. I took in the tranquility letting it refresh my soul, while nibbling on a delicious granola bar covered in dark chocolate! YUM! I checked my odometer and I had ridden almost 7 km’s. Not a huge amount but I’d had surgery only 3 weeks ago and my knee was getting a bit tired. I decided after my snack in the sunshine, I’d turn around and head back. Fourteen km’s was plenty and I was so excited that on a day like this, I was lucky enough to be able to adventure in the beautiful weather!
I had started at Stone Mill Road and ridden to Cherry Hill Boulevard. If you’d like to plan your own Trans Canada Trail excursion, just check out their cool map here !
I rode back slowly, enjoying the beautiful weather and fall fabulousness!
Before I knew it I was back at my car, bike in the trunk and ready to head home.
BUT…. I didn’t feel like going home, so I drove straight down Stone Mill Road to Lake Erie and took some photos to test out my camera a bit more!
