As many of you know, last spring I applied for Canada's Dream Job with Woods Canada.  The contest brought forward almost 4000 applicants and out of those people, I sadly was not chosen.  Melba Seto and Adam Kochanek were chosen and they were absolutely awesome! I followed along with the Woods Explorers every step of their journey and was so involved, Woods even sent me a set of Woods Explorer shirts for myself and my mom [...]

Once upon a time, I hated winter ...but then I decided to embrace it. I bought a pair of snowshoes from my favourite place Outdoors Oriented , Elektra's made by Atlas Snowshoe Compamy. Then, I waited, but the snow didn't come! I went winter glamping twice, but it wasn't cold enough for the ice to freeze to skate on, it wasn't snowy enough to snowshoe and cross country skiing wasn't even an option.  I was ready, [...]

I woke up to a beautiful day, 15 degrees in mid November!  I had had knee surgery just over 3 weeks ago and I was feeling awesome! Last weekend I had ridden the Trans Canada Trail in Fort Erie and today, I was up for a new adventure! I shuffled over to my computer and clicked on the Trans Canada Trail website to find a section of the trail I could ride my bike on, that I hadn't done [...]

Here it was, already Thanksgiving weekend. The summer had gone by and I had camped my way through all of it.  Since May I had been on 13 trips, 9 of them provincial parks, 7 parks I'd never been to. On top of that I had hiked 9 sections of the Trans Canada Trail along with countless other hiking trails and kayaked a large amount of creeks, streams, rivers and lakes!  I was one happy camper, literally!!!! [...]

Once upon a time I applied to be the woods explorer. It seems like a lifetime ago, but it was really only about 6 months ago. My application video was different than pretty much every one that I'd seen and I was hopeful this would make me stand out and have a better chance of being picked. Instead of listing all the reasons why they should pick me, I tried to show them, that I [...]

My new Pot Set – Testing it out at Bon Echo PP

I have been backcountry camping and camping in general for over 15 years.  I love being out in nature and preparing cool things to eat. I rarely buy the dehydrated bags of meals as I find them loaded with salt and I tend to get migraines from them, so I do my best to get creative when cooking on my camping trips. I bought my first camping pot set about 18 years ago and have [...]

Every year my mom and I head to Parkway Cottages & Resort for a few days at the cottage. It is located just outside the border of Algonquin Park and we spend lots of time there hiking and exploring the area!  I am not a time waster and when I am heading  out on an adventure, choose to use all the time I have available, like leaving at 4 or 5am to get up north [...]

Trans Canada Trail – Niagara Falls Ontario

It was a rare thing for me to have free time these days, but last Sunday, I had the whole day to myself. I had honestly assumed I would be hungover as Saturday was Grape & Wine in Niagara, a festival many locals and tourists participate in revolving around drinking wine. I ended up waking up at 715am, and felt great so I got up and decided it was a good day to go adventuring, [...]

My 1st solo trip- The MassasaugaPP – Afraid of the dark!

It's funny the reactions you get from people when you tell them you are going on a solo backcountry trip! I'm not 100% sure if it's because I am female, or just because people don't really understand what spending time in nature does for your soul? From the very first time I went backcountry camping in 2002, I was hooked! On that trip I was in for 5 days and stayed on 4 different lakes. [...]

Trans Canada Trail …On the Grand in Brantford ON

On Saturday, September 5th, I had plans to visit friends in Woodstock for the evening.  Another great opportunity to explore a new section of the Trans Canada Trail!  I went on the website and checked the TCT Map.  I discovered a really nice section in Brantford, pretty much en route to my final destination, so I packed up my bike, lots of water, as it was going to be very hot today, and headed [...]
