Life has been busy at Camper Christina's headquarters.  LOL.  As you may have read somewhere, I am taking my Level one instructor course with Ontario Sea Kayak Centre in a few weeks and am very excited!  Due to this, I am in study mode and even have pre-homework for the course. LOTS of homework actually. Sadly, there aren't enough hours in the day and sometimes I have to curb my exploring desire and stay home [...]

I had plans to head over and visit my kayaking coach for some training in preparation of my Level  1 Sea Kayak Instructor Course, but as sometimes plans do, they were moved to another day during the week.  This put me at 8am on a Saturday morning, kayak on car all ready to go, and no plans for the weekend. Guess I could start my kayak camping season after all?  You didn't have to twist [...]

It has been far too long since I camped and I was dying to go!!!  A few events, some sickness, a visit from mom, and some bad weather had kept me from doing what I love most and this weekend was turning out to be the same. I wanted to cry! Originally, the weekend plan was to do a canoe trip on Rain Lake at Access #4 on the west side of Algonquin Park.  But, [...]

I had intended to camp this weekend, but on Saturday morning, kayak on my car, camping gear packed and fully ready to go, I woke up feeling horrible.  I had a sinus infection by the familiar feeling of it and felt nauseous and headachy.  Going on a solo camping trip feeling like this, for me, wasn't a smart move and I knew I had to stay home. I spent the whole day resting and making [...]

Peaceful Paddling in November-Lyons Creek 1

On November 29th, In Canada, lol, I set out to paddle Lyons Creek in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  Yes, I was wearing snow pants, a very warm ski jacket and a toque, but I was going paddling and I was stoked!!! On Thursday I had gone to Outdoors Oriented and picked up a pair of Marmot Connect Gloves. Whenever I am at the store, I always get valuable advice from someone there, this visit was no different. Paddling in November- Beautiful Richardson Creek

I purchased my kayak in the spring of 2012 from Outdoors Oriented at their Pack and Paddle day they have annually.  It's such a great idea!  They set up a bunch of booths and have some of the line reps come out and they have a bunch of their boats at Jordan Harbour for people to test them out.  It's definitely hard to try a boat in a store and this is a great solution for that! Every year I take my mom to the Parkway Cottages & Resort in Dwight, Ontario.  I went there in 2001 after my very first backcountry trip in Algonquin Park. Five days of roughing it, followed by 5 days of cottaging.  It was a great trip and since then I have been going back occasionally. One year, I decided to take my mom for her birthday and she has wanted to go there every year since. [...]
