Sherman Falls

It was a gorgeous Saturday morning when I embarked on my adventure to visit Sherman Falls.  Out of all the falls in Hamilton, this one was special to me, as it and I boast the same name!  Well, mine is spelled slightly more complicated, but audibly they are one in the same!

Located in Ancaster Village, Sherman falls is a 17 metre high curtain waterfall that is a feature along the area’s Bruce Trail. According to the map above, it is within Dundas Valley Conservation Area.

Upon arrival to the area, a wood lined trail takes you towards the falls.  As the sun was still starting out the day, I got a few really nice shots of it painting the upper area of the valley that  Ancaster Creek and Sherman Falls are in.

The trail to Sherman falls is short, but very picturesque, especially when the sun has just come up! I was loving being here, not only at this time with the beautiful lighting, but having the area all to myself was a bug plus for me!

Like Tiffany Falls, there was a beautiful bridge that crossed the creek en route to the waterfall.  I love bridges and think they are a fabulous subject for pretty pictures!

Ancaster Creek was also really pretty with parts of it being frozen and bits of ice in other parts of it.

Although you can see the falls as soon as you arrive, the bridge is where you get your first really good view of the falls.

Although you are granted access to this area, it is privately owned and there are several signs advising it. There was also a sign to recognize the volunteers of the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club who built the bridge and Siemens Fossil Power Generation who funded it. Big thanks to these people for making the visit to Sherman Falls even more awesome than it was!

Even though it wasn’t extremely cold recently, there was still snow here and frozen patches along the trail towards the falls.  Always take extra care when you are out adventuring in these conditions, especially if you are alone.

I arrived at the base of the falls and I just stood for a moment in awe of its’ beauty and awesomeness!

Then I began exploring all the areas in and around the actual waterfall which I found fascinating.

There was water flowing, ice melting, but a few spots where the ice was completely solid.

I was amazed how some water froze and some just kept right on flowing like it was a warm spring day.

After I got my fill of exploring Sherman Falls, I turned around and headed back on the trail I came in towards my car.

I was sad to go but there were many more adventures waiting for me and I was anxious to start a new one!
