On Monday August 24th, 2015, my mom and I headed out to Whiskey Rapids Trail in Algonquin Park, one of our favourite trails there!

Whiskey Rapids is a great trail. I love it for many reasons.  The trail starts off going down a bit of a steep hill.  You can almost hear the water right from the start but can not see it.  When it does come into view, you are repeatedly rewarded with gorgeous sights, time and time again.

This year the water was lower than when we were here last year. We were able to walk right out on to what was formerly all river, with the exception of a few areas that had a bit of shallow water.  Mom just trounced right through with her waterproof hiking boots, smiling all the way!

The sounds, the smells, the views, all make this a wonderful way to spend some time while visiting Algonquin Park.

There are boardwalks to go over, forests to hike through, and did I mention the amazing views of the river?

I think I will just let the pictures speak for themselves ….

They have all been posted in the order in which they were taken, so you can consider this a virtual hike, without the live amazingness that comes with being here in person. 🙂

A nice place to stop for a photo shoot, a drink and a snack!

One last glimpse of the river and then it’s back into the forest for the trip back to the parking lot using the Old Tote Road!

The way out is mostly flat but fairly picturesque.  As a lot of rain had fallen the week before our arrival there were some puddles to jump but nothing major.

Just a few boardwalks and a turn to the right, up a bit of a hill, and you are back to the beginning of the trail and your exit point.

In the parking lot, we noticed something very strange! A tree that looked like a giant christmas tree, literally, and to me, that means fake, as my trees usually are. The base of it had wires coming out of it and then we realized it must be some type of cellular tower disguised as a tree.  I did some poking around and found out that the tree is indeed a Bell tower disguised as a tree.  Here are a few pics and a LINK with information about the tree! Thanks to Andrea from Algonquin Park for the info!
