On November 29th, In Canada, lol, I set out to paddle Lyons Creek in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Yes, I was wearing snow pants, a very warm ski jacket and a toque, but I was going paddling and I was stoked!!!
On Thursday I had gone to Outdoors Oriented and picked up a pair of Marmot Connect Gloves. Whenever I am at the store, I always get valuable advice from someone there, this visit was no different.
Upon reviewing my beautiful paddle at Richardson Creek, I was picking Jamies brain about other small creeks in the area that were similar. It was really my favourite type of paddling!
He advised that I might want to check out Lyons Creek and that the information for the put in was in his book, that I already owned and used frequently. So I checked it out when I got home later and decided I would paddle there next.
Today was that day and so far, I was in heaven!
To get to the put in, you take the QEW towards Fort Erie from St. Catharines, exit at Lyons Creek Road and go right. Take your first left which is Willodell Road and then turn left onto McCredie Road. Here you will find a small parking area with a short trail that takes you to the creek.
The put in was very shallow and I had to exert some effort to get into the actual creek and out of the dark mud that tried to suck me in. I got going after a few minutes and was happily on my way.
The sky was full of fluffy white clouds and the sun was in and out for the time I was on the water, making for a good variety of pictures.
I even found a few friends along the way!
From the put in I had gone to my left, under Willodell Road and under the QEW. I took a right however when I arrived at the next option, went back under the QEW and then ended up in Tee Creek. The map shows some parts of it without water, but luckily there was enough for me to get through with my kayak and I ended up going quite a bit farther than I thought I would be able to, which was awesome!
Then, I finally came to a roadblock. Sad but true, it was time to turn around and head back.
The scenery was just as beautiful on the way back as it was on the way out. With the sun mostly gone, it gave it a bit of an eerie look but I thought it made it possibly more beautiful!
If I timed it right, I would just be getting back to the put in when the sun started to descend. 🙂
The sunset was so pretty and I honestly didn’t want to take my boat out yet. I knew though, it would be dark soon, I was getting chilly and I still had to drive a half hour before arriving home to put my boat away, which was always a bit tricky in the dark.
I took one last shot from the parking lot, and headed home, so grateful for such a beautiful day paddling!

This looks beautiful. I wonder if there are hiking/walking trails around the creek. Would love to check it out in warmer weather.
